Boston College is one of the nation’s foremost universities. With a commitment to uniting high academic achievement with service to others and a dedication to social justice, the university is an ideal location for investigative journalism to thrive. The New England Center for Investigative Reporting is partnering once again with BC to bring its summer journalism workshop to the Heights for the second year in a row. We invite high school writers and budding journalists to join us in Chestnut Hill for a two-week intensive journalism workshop with a focus on social justice issues.

Students will learn on Boston College’s Chestnut Hill campus and go on field trips for interviews. While learning valuable journalism skills and strengthening their writing, research, and critical thinking skills, students will get the Boston College experience; interacting with other high school students attending BC ‘s pre-college programs and exploring life on campus.

This comprehensive program covers:

  • Finding investigative story ideas

  • Newswriting basics

  • Writing an investigative piece

  • How to perform a background check
